Eligibility:

Dependents of parents and grandparents are not eligible for the super visa. However, they can apply for a regular visitor visa. The applicants of the parents or grandparents must be admissible to Canada and meet certain conditions. The visa officers will have to be convinced that the applicant is genuine and he or she will leave by choice as the visit ends. Among the things, the officer might consider the person’s ties to his or her home country, the individual’s financial and family situation, the reason for the individual’s visit, economic and political stability of the home country of the individual, and invitations from the Canadian host.

Following are few requirements:

  1. Complete and submit form [IMM5257] (to be filled outside of Canada).
  2. Invitation letter from the host.
  3. Parents or Grandparents must provide financial support from their child (host) and meet minimum & income household. (around $17,000)
  4. Prove Canadian medical coverage insurance (for at least 1 year).
  5. Complete medical examination requirements.

Letter of Invitation format should include:

Complete Name and Middle Name of Parents.

  • Date of Birth/Country of Birth.
  • Parent/grandparent Address and Phone Number
  • Relationship to the host (citizen or permanent resident of Canada)
  • The purpose of the trip.
  • How long the parent/grandparent intends to stay.
  • Detail of accommodation
  • Date the parent/grandparent intends to leave

 

Low Income Cut Off point

The children or grandchildren who wish to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada will have to meet the   Low Income Cut Off (LICO) requirement to host them. They will have to establish that they have enough funds to sponsor you and guarantee your stay in Canada. They must state the number of people in their household that are dependents on them and others that they have sponsored, if applicable. They must also add the parents or grandparents as a dependent when they reach Canada.
